Charitable Tax Receipting

For Canadian tax payers, charitable tax receipts are available for 40-60% of the cost of your trip. The volunteer portion of our trips is the only portion of the costs that is eligible for a charitable tax receipt.   The costs that are eligible are expenses voluntarily incurred in pursuit of the charitable work of GiveGetGo’s partnered charity Medicos En Accion Canada*. This includes a direct donation to the building program (operating and building materials), your medical insurance, and your travel, food and lodging while on the build in the host country. Eligible airfare costs (including cancellation insurance) can also receive a tax receipt.

Eligibility for a charitable tax receipt for the (economy) airfare cost is based on the majority of the trip being for charitable purposes. If a participant chooses to extend the trip to include additional personal vacation time in excess of the total number of GiveGetGo related trip days less one day, the participant’s airfare expenses will not be eligible for a tax receipt.

No tax receipts are issued for costs associated with the R&R (rest and relaxation) portion or travel preparations such as passports or vaccinations.

* Medicos En Accion Canada will issue charitable tax receipts for donations over $50.00 made to Melody School.

While fundraising is a great way to subsidize your trip either 100% or partially, it also has a ripple effect as it creates awareness for what you are doing and for the amazing projects GiveGetGo is involved with. Fundraising is a great way to involve more people in your project and share your excitement about helping a community to build a better life for themselves and their children. It introduces prospective donors to become involved in GiveGetGo and this can lead to more people enrolling who can help participate in the project being completed ahead of schedule!

Please contact your GiveGetGo representative to fully understand the fundraising procedures and amounts eligible, as they vary for each trip. Please note in order to be considered registered for a trip you must submit a 20% deposit.  You are required to pay the full cost of your trip and airfare costs before you leave.

As a conscientious fundraiser it is your responsibility to maintain good and faithful stewardship over  donations. We will guide you through the process of receiving, recording and submitting the donations. Once you have registered for your trip, we will provide you with many great fundraising ideas to get you on your GiveGetGo way!
